I am still looking for any info re Nafin (Nephin, Naphan). There seem to be a fair number of them in the Parish of Boyle, Townlands of Sheegora, Deerpark. Emigrated to Canada in early 1840's. Did they have help with the finances? Jan
I suspect that tenants were "assisted" by the landlords. My HUNTS from Sixmilehouse, Kilbride, showed up in St Louis in the 1850 Census as a family. It was cheaper to ship them off to Canada than to keep them in Ireland. However, I have no idea of their immigration point or why they went to St Louis. Amazing that Timothy was already 50 in that census and lived to be enumerated in both versions of the 1880 US Census at the age of 96. His daughter was 82 when she broke her hip and died of hypostatic pneumonia. Her daughter, my grandmother, lived to 87 and my mother lived to 90. So, I will probably live a long life.
