    1. Re: [ROSCOMMON] Towns in Roscommon
    2. Friends, Regarding the number of towns/townlands in County Roscommon. For those who may not know, there is a difference between towns and townlands. Towns are the villages where stores, churches, etc are (Keadue, Boyle, etc.) Townlands are the places where people lived---ie. their acreage where they farmed. The townlands had names, rather than street addresses. I read at one time that there were either 64,000 or 65,000 townlands in Ireland. My grandparents lived on the 26 acre townland of Derreenavicara. It is a mile Southeast of the Village of Keadue in the very northern tip of County Roscommon. They had no other mailing address other than Derreenavicara, Keadue, County Roscommon Ireland. Hope this provides some understanding. George
