George Hoyt, I saw with interest your recent postings re Mary K. Gaffney and am wondering if there could be any relation to my family. My 3xgr grandparents were John Gaffney and Margaret (Nangle) Gaffney. They emigrated to Canada in 1847 with their children: Mary b. June 8 1831 Bridget b. abt 1832 John b. June 21, 1837 Ann b. abt 1841 Eliza b. Sept. 12, 1844 Margaret b. abt 1846 and another baby whose name I don't know. The youngest two died of small pox shortly after arriving in Canada and the father a couple of months later. John Gaffney is believed to be the son of John Gaffney and Julia McGuirl and had siblings Daniel, Thomas, James, Mary, Patrick, Edward, and Charles, some of whom emigrated as well. Margaret Nangle (b. July 16, 1812) is believed to be the daughter of James Nangle and Mary Gaffney and had siblings Elizabeth, Thomas, Mary, James, Ann, Patrick, Owen, Bridget, Honor, Michael and John. There is a family story that one of Margaret's brothers was robbed on his way home from a market where he had sold some cattle and was struck on the head and killed. I have reviewed the LDS film#1279224 and was able to find two baptisms but no townland was mentioned. This film had a lot of Gaffneys but I had no way to determine what, if any, relationships. Would love to hear from you. Thanks Barb Youmans
