    1. Re: [ROSCOMMON] Gaffneys in Keadue or Kilronan
    2. Dear Barb-- Since you have reviewed the Keadue film, there isn't much more that I can advise. I can trace my family back before the church records began in the 1820's, and none of the names you mentioned connect to my line. I'm sure that we are all related further back, as there are a lot of Gaffneys in the Keadue area. I still have Gaffney cousins living there !!! However, youi may wish to write to the Priest at the Keadue Church as he may have some other records, and may be able to help you. My Gaffney line came from the Derreenavicara Townland, which is about 1 mile south/southeast of the Keadue Village. My family had 26 acres of the 149 acres of the Derreenavicara Townland. There were eight families on the Derreenavicara Townland most of the time, and at one time five of the eight were Gaffneys. My Mom was born and grew up there and I have been there twice. Once I actually went into the house where she was born. That was a very humbling experiencse, as it was hard to imagine eight children living in such a small house. All seven daughters including my Mom, came to the USA, and only my uncle remained in Ireland on the Derreenavicara Townland as he inherited it from my grandfather. Interstingly enough, two of the sisters returned to Keadue after many years in the USA, and married Irishmen and lived out there lives there. Some of their children, my cousins, are still alive, and it makes for a wonderful visit when I go there. The Irish are very hospitable, but when you are related it is even more so !!! Best Wishes, George Hoyt Glen Ivy CA
