Janet, Thanks so much for looking these people up. The Winifred you found certainly looks like the lady I'm after (KINNEY/KINNY could easily be the name CUNNIFF as mangled over the years). The POWERS certainly don't seem to go back very far, though. Hmm. Do your records include marriages? I indicated that my great-grandparents were married in Kilkenny, but last night I was looking over my mother's notes, and she had a question mark after "Kilkenny" -- so that was just a guess.
