Kaye A map would be your best ally here. My understanding is that Frenchpark is located all the way north, near Boyle, in CoRoscommon. Athlone lies all the way south in longitude and (just to confuse us) now belongs in CoWestmeath. To date, I have been able to piece together these facts: 1) At some point Athlone seems to have belonged inside CoRoscommon. But the County boundaries must have shifted and today the Shannon River defines the eastern boundary of CoRoscommon along much of its length. This puts Athlone on the other side of the Shannon; and so it now belongs in CoWestmeath. [However, "Athlone" is still the name of the Poor Law Union for both towns, e.g.] 2.) St. Peter's used to be the RC Parish for Kiltoom, Roscommon, a 5-minute walk across the bridge from Athlone. But in the later 19th c., St. Peter's was closed and the parish was merged by the Diocese with St. Peter's and Paul's in Athlone. It is likely that the Parish Records from the old St. Peter's in Kiltoom are held at St. Peter and Paul's in Athlone, CoWestmeath.[Are you following all this?] 3.) For local color (and for your map search), both Kiltoom, CoRoscommon and Athlone, CoWestmeath lie on the same road which runs from Galway Bay on the Atlantic all the way to Dublin on Ireland's east coast. Athlone was always a sizeable market town. And with its strategic location it traditionally accommodated military personnel in barracks, etc., in case this is relevant to your family. 4.) Now the question is: with your family dates and your new-found maps in hand, where do you search for your ancestors? Well, the old St. Peter's parish records have been microfilmed and are available at your local Family History Center of the LDS. You can order them there, free of charge except for postage and shipping from Salt Lake City, Utah. I pay about $3.50 per tape. 5.) Another reource is to see the original records at St. Peter's and St. Paul's in Athlone. But it is best to write ahead if you are planning to visit Ireland to make sure the Records are there. A donation to the Parish Priest for his trouble is also in order. Then there are always the heritage centers to help, although it will cost you more.
