    2. If you plan to go to the National Library on Kildare street in Dublin to do research I advise you get two additional ID pictures prior to leaving USA....[same as you needed for passport]...as you will be required to obtain a 'readers card' to use the microfilm records and your picture is required for that. They also ask for picture IDs. Best of Irish Good Luck.... Janice Boston In a message dated 7/20/2007 7:47:08 P.M. To all the other tips I would add: Have a plan of the things you really want to find and think about where you might find them - in Dublin I would start at the National Archives, check their website for what they hold if you haven't already done that: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ They have excellent and helpful (free) genealogists who can suggest search options. Take a folder of whatever relevant information you have - memory often fails when confronted with a variety of possibilities! There are reasonable security rules at NA (eg leaving belongings in lockers, taking only the essentials for research upstairs etc - you will find these on the website under 'visit & contact us') but the folks are friendly and helpful. Check the websites of the various research facilities, especially opening days and hours so as not to waste valuable time in finding you have arrived on the 'closed' day, afternoon, morning etc. In Dublin, check the bus/train routes which will get you where you want to go as easily as possible - this can also save precious time. (I also took the bus/opening hours/location stuff in my folder.) TALK TO LOCAL PEOPLE!! they often know other sources or knowledgable people who might help.
