I have a Michael born Roscommon circa 1829 recorded as BYRNE (1851), BYRN (1853), BEIRN (1861 and 1901), O'BEIRNE (1871), BIRNE (1872) and BEIRNE (1873 and 1891). I can't find him in the 1881 Census. Any connection, Patty? In 1851 Michael's birthplace is recorded as 'Ireland Lathrain'*, in 1871 as 'Ireland Roscommon' and in other instances simply as 'Ireland'. * I can't find any reference to a Lathrain. The word is written quite clearly except that as the 'i' isn't dotted there is a possibility that it could be Lathram. If so, could it be a corrupted spelling of Leitrim perhaps? Michael's marriage to Sarah formerly Ewings, born Wetherall is my major brick wall. In 1851 he is living at Crown Street, Botchergate aged 22 and married to Sarah aged 19 but try as I might, I have been unable to find where and when the marriage occurred. I've scoured the Civil Registration Index from 1844 (when Sarah would have been 12) to 1852 but can't identify either of them (or I missed them), likewise with the IGI. Assuming Michael and Sarah were married in Carlisle and also that they were married in a Catholic Church, which Church would it be? If anyone has access to those Parish Records and could check them for me I would be most grateful. It's possible of course that Michael was not a Catholic but I think it unlikely. Geo. Looking for Roscommon O'Beirnes.
