The custom back then and it pretty much stands now is that the couple would marry in the bride's family's parish. Sorry I forgot to mention that Andrew DUNCAN was a Presbyterian and Margaret CAMPBELL was Roman Catholic. I wondered if the Marriage would take place at the Barracks or maybe the nearest Church. They were both buried in the Eastern Cemetery, Geelong, Victoria, Australia, Andrew in the Presbyterian section and Margaret in the Catholic section. Mary

My great-grandparents were married at Athlone Roscommon about 1839. Andrew DUNCAN born at Dunfermline, Scotland was with the 99th Regiment and he married Margaret CAMPBELL of Shannonbridge. Can anyone suggest which Church they would have been married in?. Many thanks for any suggestions. Mary, New Zealand
Mary: My g-grandfather Patrick Cunningham was baptized in the Kilmurry Parish of County Clare. I found this out by searching the names on Google!!! It had been recorded on LDS film#926101. He was listed on the Parish Registers 1839-1880. He came to the US in about 1850! This information was hosted by Rootsweb.com. Good Luck!!! My g-grandmother on the other side of my genealogy was Mary Kirk who emigrated from Scotland with her three brothers. The brothers were members of the Highlanders in Scotland and upon arriving in the US were immediately drafted into the Union army and fought in the American civil war with one of them dying in Andersonville(a notorious southern prison). Kathleen: My wife's g-grandmother came from Diffley, Roscommon County. Her Name was Mary Diffley and she emigrated to the US in the 1880s. I put her name on google and it came up with the exact town in Ireland and the obit for her in Pennsylvania. It was awesome. My g-g- grandfather came from County Clare, not too far away. His name was Patrick Cunningham. We plan to go to Ireland in about a year or two for the first time! Happy hunting!! His name was John Brennan and he died there around 1939-1940 when he could not make the trip back to New York. His wife¹s name was Margaret Haggerty (sp?) and she had pre-deceased him @1897. They had one daughter, Mary Margaret Brennan, who was born @1896-1898. Mary Margaret Brennan married Owen Paul Gill in Flushing, New York in 1925. John Brennan¹s last known address was with his daughter, Mary Brennan Gill who lived in Flushing, New York. The reason for the inquiry is that my mother, Mary Gill, and I are going to Ireland next August and would love to visit Roscommon and his grave site if we can find it. Thank you! Kathleen, get his death certificate from Ireland (www.groireland.ie ) as it will have the townland where he died. From that you can proceed. Date and place of death, aged of deceased, Cause of death, Name of next of kin, Date of registration. John Brennan is a common Irish name so give some other identifying clues, such as age, spouse, occupation. I realize that you have very little information so you might wait until you are in Roscommon and go to the GRO there and manually search the Index of Deaths in the time frame. www.groireland.ie will give you the details. Only Euro cheques drawn on an Irish bank will be accepted. However, MasterCard and Visa credit cards are accepted. The name of the applicant and the name on the credit card must be the same. Chris: I had my DNA tested by Family DNA in Houston, Texas. 6 months ago. It cost $100.00 It revealed perfect match with my great-grandfather who was born in 1839 in County Clare, Ireland. It also revealed that I am more English then I knew(bloody!!!). I also had almost a perfect match with the Mark family of Cumberland, England(right across the border from the Cunningham district of Scotland). Happy Hunting and New Year, Richard Cunningham Saginaw, Michigan P.S. the DNA passes through the male side so you can still trace your geneology! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Hendrickson" <chendrickson@cfl.rr.com> To: <roscommon@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 26, 2006 11:42 PM Subject: Re: [ROSCOMMON] O'Duigenan, Duignan, Duigan Names > Hi all. > > It is so nice to see others talk about one of my ancestor's name. Don't be to surprised what you'll find when it comes to some of these IRISH Records!! I am now finding them in Bisphops Caundle, Dorset, England. And have been told by a good source that it's a big mistake..Go Figure. I had a feeling that it was a mistake as I read from the Church records while visiting Athlone, Ireland...I found alot of my ancestors in their records!! So what is this deal of them printing it out in England?? Go with your own gut feelings. Jacquie@cableusa.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phyllis M.
