My great grandmother was a Flynn. Dee Hi Dee If I knew that I might be a bit more succesful with this line of my research. My Grandmother was Helena Flynn born circa 1893 her father John Flynn (according to her marriage certificate he was a farmer) This is all I have on the Flynn side apart from the recent history and story that our Flynns originated in Co Cork going way back.My grandmother Helena apparently had several brothers and most if not all the family left Ireland and settled in Lancashire UK. I have other family members Madden and Kelly in the Strokestown area of Roscommon also mentioned in the townlands of Dunmurraghoe Clooncullaan and Doonard in the early 1900's. I would love to say there may be a link but unfortunately my information is so sketchy I doubt I would be much help in establishing one. I would be interested in what you think. In 1847, my ancestor SIMON REYNOLDS served as sponsor, with Maria Murray, for SABINA CRAVAN, born Sept 26, daughter of MICHAEL CRAVAN and Bridget Kelly. The above is from Clontuskert parochial records, Co. Galway. That is not far from Moore parish. Were your Martin and this Michael perhaps related? I found Michael Cravan in the townland of Corrabaun in Griffith's Valuation. I also wonder whether/how my Simon might have been related to the Cravan's, and whether he also lived in Corrabaun. Anyone researching the name HARDIMAN/HARGADON?? they were originally from Galway, but now I'm finding some of my ancestors in ATHLONE...Peter Hardiman, married a PENELOPE VEASEY/VEYSEY/VESEY..They married abt.1828, at St.Peter & Paul's church, there on Church St. In Athlone. Thank you. Jacquie~Ca.
Susan, I too will be visiting Ireland in late August. My family research is around Athlone. I will be traveling alone, and the purpose of the trip, my first to Ireland, is exclusively genealogy research. Where would you suggest I look to stay? I'm flying into Galway and plan to drive to Athlone. Possibly drive up to Dublin for a day or two, and spend second week in Scotland. Any trips for the trip appreciated from anyone.
