Hi: I only know Catharine's mother as ''Bridget" born 1781 and must have come to Canada in 1842 with her daughter , no husband.(1861 census). I shall pursue another Sharkey (Sharkett), Michael, I saw in some of the records and see where he originated. I hadn't thought anything about him at the time. Never overlook anything, right? I have a GGGrandfather John Johnson (birthplace unknown) who married a Mary Keaney from Roscommon and moved to the South Shields area of England. around 1850. He would have been born around 1815-1817. Do you have any background info that might help me? Terry Perth, Western Australia Patricia O'Shea wrote: Hi all - have just come into this thread. Hi, thanks for this, Sharkett did appear on one of our lists as a possible. We are unsure of mother's name but had thought it might be Ellen Sheerin. Father of Michael b 1823 approx would have been John. Kathleen No I have not followed up that Sharkey line, but it got very confusing because there were so many Patrick Sharkey and so many Sharkey and Feely marriages around that time. Good luck.
Hi Kathleen Yes I have GGGrandmother Catherine Sharkey married James Feely (stone mason) and had a daughter Sarah (Sarah Feely) born 1864. Eventually the name came up under RC records for Croghan, Boyle. 24th April 1864; Sarah Catherine Fehilly. Father; James - occupation stone mason Mother; Catherine Sharkod. ( was this a synome for Sharkey?. Dont know) Croghan is a small village about 7 miles south of Boyle town. Any connection? Heather In Australia
Kathleen, My Michael Foley emigrated to Chicago to work as a stonecutter on the new skyscrapers being built after the great fire. He died at age 38 in 1898 of "stonecutters' disease", a lung disease. Do you know if your Sharkeys came to Chicago? Hello Kathleen. My ancestors originate from Boyle. We are not sure when they emigrated but I know that Michael was born in 1823, his father was called John. (~We are not sure if John's wife was called Ellen). Michael married in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in 1856 to Catherine OReilly (from Kiltevan) and the line continued. We know John was a farmer, thought the family were not farming when they came to England. I have the infomration on them all from the 1850s and am more than willing to share. There seemed to be two separate Sharkey groups in Chesterfield, virtually living next door to each other but I have not found a link between them! The Sharkeys that fought in the Civil War and one becoming a governor in Mississippi were also supposed to be relatives. Again I cannot find the link back to 1700s. Frustrating. Best wishes, Margaret ----- Original Message ----- From: <Rafernyc@aol.com> To: <roscommon@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2007 6:33 PM Subject: [ROSCOMMON] Sharkeys from Boyle, Roscommon > Does anyone have Sharkey relatives born in Boyle, Roscommon?
