Hi Janet and Margaret. I too have a SHARKETT connection with my 3x great grandmother Ann SHARKETT marrying John JOHNSON in Boyle, Rosc in 1815. This marriage was Church of Ireland and John JOHNSON was a stone mason by trade. I have not yet found her baptism although there seem to be some SHARKETT families in the area at the time. Seems unclear whether they were COI or RC. Any connections or further information most welcome. Cheers, Patsy - New Zealand > Hi Jan B, I am also looking for Sharkey and Sharketts. Hi Jan B, I am also looking for Sharkey and Sharketts. John Sharkey(t) who had Michael around 1823. All supposed to be around the Boyle area as well. I do not have Applotment info. I do know that a lady had information on Bartley as one of her connections, so I am sure she will pick this up. Our Sharkeys arrived in England and settled eventually in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Hello, Roscommon Researchers, For those who may be interested, my book which follows some of the evicted rent strikers from famine-time Ballykilcline in County Roscommon, Ireland, to their new lives in the U.S., and in particular to Rutland, VT, is now described online in UMASS Press’ Spring Catalog at http://www.umass.edu/umpress/spr_08/dunn.htm. Its title is Ballykilcline Rising / From Famine Ireland to Immigrant America. Publication is expected in July. The book also is listed on Amazon.com for pre-orders. While much of the story is set in Rutland, Vermont, where a number of the immigrants settled permanently or temporarily, my narrative begins in Roscommon and explores the conditions on the ground before and during the rent strike and the famine. It considers, for instance, the land system and the tradition of seasonal labor elsewhere; secret societies; basic infrastructure in communications, transportation, and banking; the use of military forces; assisted emigration; and so forth. The book also has a strong focus on about a dozen families. It draws on many primary sources in Ireland and the U.S. >From the 1790s until 1834, Ballykilcline was part of the Mahon estate in Strokestown, where Ireland’s Famine Museum is now located. I am looking for the birthplace and dates of Victoria Elizabeth FORSYTH. According to the 1911 Dublin Census she was born in Athlone (City is crossed out) about 1842. Her parents were William FORSYTH and Mary (Wallace). William Forsyth was possibly working on Drainage projects in the Area at the time. By 1846 he had moved to Dublin, where he was employed by the Board of Public Works as assistant Engineer. I think they were Methodists. I should be most grateful if anybody on the list can help. Regards from New Zealand on a rainy summers day! Inga Jackson
