There is a MOOR townland in Roscommon (Parish of Kilkeevin). Are you sure of the spelling? No "E" on the end? Here is a helpful website, the Leitrim-Roscommon Genealogy Website: <A HREF="http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/">http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/</A> When you get to the homepage, click on "Surname Database" and then type in MITCHELL. You will see there are 3 researchers who are researching that name in Roscommon. Perhaps you could email them with your questions? Hope this helps! 1. [ROSCOMMON] Old Irish Script / MSWindows Font

    3. I am presently working on a project to erect engraved stone monuments at the entrance to two townlands. The first is my grandfather's birthplace, BENMORE, Co. Roscommon which lies on the Cos. Galway / Roscommon border about 3 1/2 miles west and north of Dunmore, Co.Galway. The other is my great grandfather's birthplace, CASHLIEVE which lies about one mile north and east of Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon. Mr. Kelly at Kelly's Monuments in Tuam, Co. Galway has agreed to visit the sites and give me an estimate of the costs to engrave the stones along with delivery and installation. But, I do not want to settle for the townland names in English only, but also want the names in Irish Gaelic and in the Old Irish script engraved on the stones. That then presented a problem as I would like to be able to print the names out in the old script in order to design the stones. Luckily, I found this website http://www.iol.ie/~inishowen/ where you can download the script to your PC and then install it into MS Windows. It is then available for formatting text in Word, Internet Explorer and other Windows applications. Many thanks to Inishowen Heritage site for making this font available for download. 3. Dear Denise, Just now I was going through my old incoming mail, to see if there were any emails I had not answered. This happens these days, when I have, "senior moments". Although there is a answered tick by your email, I could not find it in the sent items, so if you have not had an answer, please forgive me and if you have, please excuse getting another one. I know very little about my Costello connection. All I have is the fact that my gr.grandmother was Mary Anne Costello, born about 1838 in Ireland. I think it was in Armagh, but have no proof in Church records, just that it was recorded in the 1881 Census. Mary Anne married a man called ? Burke and had a son Edward who was born about 1862. Her second marriage was to my gr.grandfather, Daniel Hughes. Their first child was Catherine who was born in Liverpool, England in 1877. Sorry I cannot connect with your Costello family yet, but maybe we do further down the line. Regards, Therese.

    3. Dear terese: Thank you for your reply. I don't see a connection as my Roscommon Costellos were in the US circa 1867 and the Burke connection was a marriage circa 1878 near Valley Falls Rhode Island. denise _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

    3. Hello Steve: Very good to hear from you.... regarding the name McCarty. As I've said on the Roscommon Web Site, this is only a subsidiary name for me - as far as I know I'm not descended from a McCarty/McCarthy family, but a Denis and Ann McCarty were Godparents to my great-grandfather's brother in Birmingham in 1845. But as I can't connect with any other families in Roscommon as yet, I really don't know what particular families are mine! In the St. Chad's registers in Birmingham - I found a Dennis McCarty m. Joanna O'Leary on the 2nd May, 1825, so they were one of the first families to appear in the parish from Roscommon. My earliest NEARY ancestors were married in 1835 also at St. Chad's - Martin NEARY was only 17 and his bride Bridget MURRAY was 27. They went on to have six sons, two of whom (I think) went to the U.S. and the remainder stayed in Birmingham - my great-grandfather John NEARY having served over 20 years in the Army stationed on the sub-Continent. I look forward very much to hearing from you - perhaps we have information to share and maybe two heads will be better than one. I'm still in search of a townland for mine - I wonder if you know where your McCarty people came from? Incidentally, where are you? James stayed in Canada, while John ended up in Chicago, IL, USA. John had at least one daughter, Helen Mabel BENSON, who married Rodman Merritt BROWN in 1900. 3. Dear Denise, Thank you for your email. The family I am researching in that area is called ELWOOD, which is on my husband's tree. I do have a Mary Ann COSTELLO, born about 1838 on my tree, but I do not know where in Ireland. She married ? BURKE about 1858/60 and they had one son Edward. Mary Ann's husband died and she then married my gr.grandfather Daniel Hughes from Armagh. I wish I could be more help to you and hope you make progress with your research. Regards, Therese

    1. [ROSCOMMON] Loughglynn Roman Catholic Church
    2. Dear Therese, There is a lovely Loughglynn (this is the spelling currently in use in Loughglynn) Roman Catholic Church although it appears to been rebuilt since 1924. It is located on the north side of R325 in Loughglynn. This can be found on Discovery Series Map #32. The mailing address would be: Loughglynn Roman Catholic Church, Loughglynn, Co. Roscommon. My family and I visited the Church in the summer of 2001. We didn't notice any other name attached to the Church. The post office is across the road from the church and, as always, filled with helpful people. Hope this helps, Pat Mangan
