Hi I'm looking for some information on Patrick Tierney family in Roscommon do not there in Roscommon he was born. His head stone in London Ontario Canada it has Patrick Tierney Sr. died 16 Jan 1886, 71 yrs, native of Roscommon, Ireland He married a Mary Margaret Maguire or Mcguire in about 1828 or so, I believe in Ireland Not much to go on, but any information on Patrick Tierney in Roscommon will be very appreicated or on any Tierney's of Roscommon. Please e-mail Mary at [email protected]
I will be unsubbing next weekend as I head to you-know-where. I'll be back home and online, about the 15th of June. If anyone tries to contact me during the month I'm gone, all I can say is "Good luck". I have a feeling my mailbox will quickly fill with Spam, and shut down, so I wouldn't advise it. Contacting me either before I leave or after I return would probably be more fruitful. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

Kathleen at [email protected] writes: << He's also suppose to be from Co.Roscommon possibly a place called Ballyglass. >> Kathleen, Do you have a rough idea of the area of Roscommon he might have come from? There are a fistful of Ballyglass townlands, and it would be easier to locate possible ones if I had a bit more information (if you have it - if you don't, let me know and I'll see what I can come up with). I have recently found that ancestors came from Roscommon, do you know of any Cox's in the area, sorry I don't have any first names. In the 1600's some Cox's migrated to the US. Any leads or suggestions would be greatly be appreciated. Karen- I can't find a Peter Murphy. Griffith's Valuation 1857 shows my Andrew & Michael Murphy as occupiers of "House & Garden" in Ballyleague , Andrew Murphy also occupied "Land" in Gortgallen. Their father-in-laws John , Thomas & Edward Hanley as well as Daniel Gill & Thomas Dempsey. I thank you for your interest. Am envious of your trip. If you run across any MURPHY tombstones (Other than Cloontusket Cemetery) I hope you'll snap a foto of them. Bon Voyage Gerry
Gerry, Wanted to tell you before I leave.... I just got a card back from Mae Parrott whose grandparents were a Peter Murphy and Ann Burns from Ballyleague. (1st child born 1886 there.) I think I sent you there family. Anyway, she writes back: "Dear Karen, I am sorry that I don't know anthing more. Anne Burns was my grandmother's maiden name. There has to be some relation. My mother had a brother Patrick. He is buried in Ireland along side his mother and dad. I wish I could remember the name of the church as it was very close to their home and you could see the Shannon from their home. Have a wonderful time and take some snapshots. as I have nothing as our fire destroyed all my pictures. Mae" Mae is in her eighties. She did furnish the name of the church "St. Mary's Church" in her past letters to me. She did not say at that time that Patrick, her uncle died in Ireland. Mae went to Ireland in 1970's and saw her family home, but as she said, lost the photos in a fire. I am hoping we can stop there if it is not too far from Athlone. Susan, I will look for the Castle Inn and hopefully get to Glasson. My immigrant ancestor was Catherine Murray1817-1906, and her some of her siblings and mother Bridget Nolan Murray 1785-1881. Know they were from near Athlone; maybe there is a connection! I will see what I can find. It will depend on how far Ballyleague is from Athlone. Hope we have time to get there. <<I see you are a member of the one name study group. How can I find out if someone is doing a one name study of the Elwood family. Mine came from Kilmacumsy, Roscommon and I would like to contact others researching the same name.>> Hello Therese ~ Please feel free to access the Guild's website. There is a searchable online register of surnames. Although there are not as many Irish surnames registered as there are surnames of English origins perhaps you, or others on the Roscommon usergroup, will find it a useful tool for researching your family tree. http://www.one-name.org/ Best, Christi Carter KILDUFF Researching KILDUFF Worldwide Guild of One-Name Studies, Member #1607

Hi Karen, I have a friend with Moon ancesters from Athlone, and I would be interested to learn how you get on with information if you intend to meet a local priest. I gather that they still have all the parish records and I think that they would be the only avenue available. regards and good luck Juliet ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen Klaene" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2003 3:29 PM Subject: [ROSCOMMON] Ballyleague, South Cloontuskert > > > Can anyone give me a location for the above location in regards to Athlone? > > I am going to Ireland next week and plan on visiting Athlone where my ancestors lived. Karen I,m not sure if this is what you are asking but Ballyleague is the Roscommon side of Lanesborough, divided by the Shannon. Cloontuskert is an adjacent townland and once the site of a relativley famous abbey/ priory. Hello Karen, Athlone is near the middle of Ireland. It is on the road from Galway to Dublin and a good size town. The famous tenor, John McCormack was born there and there is some history of him at the Castle there. I haven't had the opportunity to see the collection but understand it is good. Have a great trip.
