    1. Re: [ROSCOMMON] MULDOWNEY, also Forry, Murry, Moraghan, Cleary, Kennedy
    2. Hi George, I think we've chatted before, although I didn't know you had Farrys. We were in Moigh in 2000, and visited a couple of the neighbors - too bad I didn't know about your cousin then. Michael Farry (b. 1895) was probably an ancestral relative of Frances Farry who married Thomas Muldowney in 1850. I imagine she was born about 1830. The marriage record doesn't have her parents of course, but the witnesses were Joseph Farry and Elizabeth Farry. John Farry was the only farmer there at the time of the Tithes. In Griffiths' valuation, John Farry was still there with house, office & land. Joseph Farry had land only. Frances died in Sandusky Ohio about 1855-1856 after her 5th child, Elizabeth, was born. Don't know too much more about her. Does your cousin in Moigh have any interest in his family history? Have you met Paddy Tansey on your visit(s) there? 1. [ROSCOMMON] SHEERIN +
    2. Dear Jake, Thanks for your e-mail. Michael SHREHORNE migrated to the UK before 1849 because he married Mary JOHNSON or PLANT 1 Feb 1849 at St. James the Less, Fradswell STS. He was my 2xggf. They had 7 children of whom the 2nd, Mary, was my 1xggm. She married George HANDLEY a farmer of Doxey Wood farm at Castlechurch STS. The range of spellings of the name include - SEHAN (marriage certificate), SHREHAN (BVR CD 2nd Edn), SHREHOM (IGI of Bridget's christening), SHREKORNE (LDS 1881 Census CD), SHREEHORNE (on Michael's marriage certificate), SHEYHANE (LDS 1881 Census CD). I found Michael SHREHORNE in the Laughlin RC Church x: 5 Sep 1821, and thus discovered his parents were John SHREHORNE and Mary FLAHERTY. Another correspondent - [email protected] - has given me new information. A list of John & Mary's children: Michaelem SHREHAN x: 5 Sep 1821 Laughlin ROS. Parents - Joannis & Mariae. Martinum SHREHAN x: 11 Dec 1823 Laughlin ROS. Parents - Joannis & Mariae. Patritium SHREEHANE x: 13 Jul 1826 Laughlin ROS. Parents - Joannis & Mariae. Brigittam SHERIDAN x: 24 Feb 1830 Laughlin ROS. Parents - Joannis & Mariae. This gives me another spelling to look out for - SHERIDAN! She also thinks she may have found John SHREHORNE's christening: Joanem SHERIN x: 12 Aug 1791 Athlone & Drum ROS. Parents - Patritii SHERIN & Bridgida GAFFY. She also gave me Mary FLAHERTY's christening: Maria FLAHERTY x: 11 Mar 1796 Boyle ROS. Parents - Cormaco FLAHERTY & Winifreda MULLOULY. I was very interested in the concept of a SHEERIN Clan and their relationship with the McDERMOTT Clan. I would be interested to have more information on this - or perhaps you could point me in the direction of a book I could buy. Thanks for the help Cyril [Cyril D. Blount - Huddersfield UK]

    3. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any information on my Roscommon ancestry. Hugh Hannelly, son of James Hannelly (Shepherd) & Mary Carty was born in Co Roscommon c1804. Hugh is listed as a shepherd on ships' indents. Catherine Waldron, daughter of John Waldron (farmer) & Rose Griffin was born in Co Galway c1811. Hugh & Catherine were married at Glinsk c1832. I know of two children born to Hugh & Catherine in Ireland, James, who was baptised at Kilbride on 8 October 1838 and a girl, name and dob unknown, who supposedly died on the voyage to Australia. I believe there to be another boy born in Ireland who presumably died at an early age, but this is unproven. Hugh & Catherine immigrated to Australia on the ship "Gilbert Henderson" in 1841, leaving the children in Ireland. I have records indicating that James was in Australia at the time of his father's death in 1863 but deceased at the time of his mother's death in 1893. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1. [ROSCOMMON] BENSON; thanks for responding
    2. Ken Benson
    3. Hello Janet! You are wonderful to give your time to all of us. I'm curious; do you have your own microfilm, or do you have a computer database? Your point is well taken that I didn't include a lot of information. We believe my great-grandfather was born about 1834 in Keadue, which is about 9 miles north of Carrick-on-Shannon, in Kilronan Parish. The year 1834 is on his gravestone here in Canada, so it's a "give-or-take-a-few-years" date. We know about the village of Keadue, because one of James Benson's sons visited there while on leave during WW1, and letters from that visit survive to this day. We don't know much about his brother, John Benson, other than records have him living in Canada in the 1860's, and then a wedding invitation about his daughter getting married in Chicago. A few John Bensons who list Ireland as birthplace died around 1910 in Chicago, both of them elderly. Various clues and bits have surfaced, but nothing to take me further back, or even sideways from James. €nothing, factual or anedotal has yielded anything about James' parents €James listed himself as Anglican in the 1871 census here in Canada €I haven't found a definitive James or John in the passenger list of any ship to Canada or the northeastern USA seaboard in the time range €current Keadue Bensons are RC but one recalled her father saying that his grandfather converted to the Catholic church, leading me to think that England is the origin of my line, centuries ago €I had checked both Protestant and Catholic records of Kilronan and Ardcarn Parishes, but I somehow missed the Boyle ones; thanks for the numbers, I'll get back to my local LDS FHC. I had the last birth you mentioned, but not the first two, both of which would fit the time frame €I strongly believe that the actual house that my great-grandfather lived in, and that his son visited in 1916 is a mile south of Keadue, just inside Ardcarn Parish €church records for Kilronan between the years 1829 and 1835 were lost forever, years ago

    2. Ken-- I saw your posting today. In case you didn't know, the Keadue church records of baptisms from 1827-1900 are on microfilm through the Mormon system. You can rent it for under $4 (US), on a 30 day loan for use at their facility. It's handwritten on old paper that didn't microfilm too well, but it is readable. It takes time, a good magnifying glass, and eyes that don't get bloodshot too easily!!! From memory, I think the film number is #1279224. But don't order it without checking to make sue it is the right number. Best wishes, George Hoyt
