Janet: You sound like an angel I've been waiting for. There were over 200 e-mails, most of them from this site and I enjoyed reading all of them. So happy for people who have located their ancestors. Haven't posted for a long time so hope I'll be so lucky. My ggrandmother Catherine (Kate) Leonard was born about 1856 supposedly in Sligo or Roscommon. She married Garrett Sennett (Sinnott) from Wexford (we think) born about 1855. They were in Chicago,IL about 1871 and came to Springfield,OH where they are buried. Sorry I don't have any more information, but hope somebody can help. Thanks, Juanita Dennison

Janet, Thank you for the GLENNON information. "Somewhere" else in my notes, I know I have a comment that "Thadeus" was often changed to Timothy. Any thoughts? Would the given names "Nancy" and "Anne" be interchangeable? Based on age at marriage for Winifred, she should have been born around 1862 which is earlier than these records. Do you know if earlier dates are available? Thanks again!! Hi Janet, Thank you very much for all the information! I came across a sheet of names (no dates or sources) that I received from a distant cousin a few years ago. He lists Thomas GATELY's wife as Mary CODY or KEADY. Mary's father is a John CODY or KEADY and her mother is listed as Mary KENNY. Children listed for Thomas GATELY and Mary CODY/KEADY are Thomas, Mary, Bridget, Annie, Patrick and Margaret. His first (?) child Thomas was born about 1859 according to his marriage record. He married Winifred GLENNON in March, 1883, in Roxbury, Massachusetts. I will keep the list you sent. Many of the dates would fit - maybe spelling variations in the names. Thanks again for all your work! Jake et al, After I noticed the Kilronan Parish URL which was posted, I recalled my collection of bookmarked URLs which include many townland areas around Ireland. I always forget I have them, as I'm a "portable paper" map person, and almost never use website maps......I don't like being chained to the computer more than I have to. But Ed Finn's Roscommon-Leitrim website has a townland map for Kilronan civil parish (based on my paper maps, the extent of the C.P. is the same as that for the RC parish). The URL is: > http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/MAPS/kilronan_cp.html < It's a bit easier to read than the other one (which is copied from the Townland Index map for that part of Roscommon - my copy of the map isn't any more clear reading the name Greaghnaleva More than the website.....only much larger). Ed Finn's website has lots of townland maps for the two counties (I just noticed that he has the (same) map for the RC parish as the civil one...or so it appears. Just as it should be.) I'm rambling. Time to go. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts
Hello, I am new to the Roscommon site, and I was wondering if anyone had any information about a Daniel Hanley (possibly Daniel E.) born in Oct. 1840 in Roscommon and came to the US in about 1854-1865. I also wonder if anyone has any information about a Nora Costello born in May 1856 in Mayo Ireland. Her father is John Costello and she came to the US in 1874-1880. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Julie

Hi Pete- This is what I found-- These all have the same parents--(Bridget,James,John(exact match year),Thomas). I have not seen any of these records recorded in Oran or Kilbegnet(where Donamon is). Janet, What a great job you are doing! Know wvweyone appreciates. Patrick Mitchell was born 8 July, 1819 . According to the info I have it was MOOR parish--- probably MOORE, county of Roscommon, Ireland. His father's name was Daniel---Have no name for the Mother. THey immigrated to Boston area in 1834 Do you have any Mitchells? TIA--Roberta
Dear Janet: I will first mention that I have written to the Roscommon Hertiage Society for the birth, marriage or death of my gggrandmother, Mary Nolan, and they had no records. This is what I have: Probably born between 1815-30 Married Michael Costello of Cloontowart Townland, Lisacull-Loughglynn Parish in Roscommon..Abt.1847 He was born 18MAR1818 s/o Peter Costello and Catherine Gorman. Children of Micheal & Mary Nolan Costello, all born in Ireland, from Family Bible & US Census: Peter Costello b. 29JUL1848 Thomas Costello b. 28JUN1850 Bridget Costello b. 1855 Michael Costello b. Sept1859 Mary Costello b. 6JAN1861 Catherine Costello b. 29SEPT1864 So....I guess what I am asking...if there were any Mary Nolan's born in the timeframe of 1815-30 in Roscommon or Mayo/Sligo area. If there is a Mary Nolan married to a Michael Costello in the time frame around 1847. And if the above children's births are listed ANYWHERE. The family immigrated in the 1860s to Rhode Island. Mary Nolan Costello is listed on the family tombstone as having died in 1865....but there is no record of her death...perhaps she died at sea or in Ireland and her husband just had her name put on the stone. Thank you very much!! denise _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
