Someone at [email protected] writes: << Possibly both natives of parish Ballerbrahan ????,Balleydrahan,Balleydraham?? If some one could help with either parish or location,ie: townlands >> If I assume that these alternative names were based on an oral recitation of the townland name - rather than copying from a written or printed original - then I think I have three possible townlands. They all have the letter "g" however, which would be noticeable (I'd think) in a written original document. But the "g", especially as a "gh", could be quite easily heard as an "h". So here are my three guesses: Ballyboughan townland is in Roscommon civil parish, just one mile NW of the town of Roscommon. Ballybroghan townland is in Kilcooley civil parish, on the eastern side of the N 61 national road between Tulsk and Roscommon town, a little more than one mile SE of Tulsk itself. Ballybrogan townland is in St. John's civil parish, one mile SE of Lecarrow and 4 miles SE of Knockcroghery, between the N 61 and Lough Ree. That's about it, I think. Looking for Edward Dufficy b. abt 1790s married Mary Padgen.b abt 1797. Possibly both natives of parish Ballerbrahan ????,Balleydrahan,Balleydraham?? If some one could help with either parish or location,ie: townlands or family members. Edwards father may have been a Jeremiah. Please contact me off list at [email protected] leads would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Máirtín, Thank you for the address, sorry I havn`t replied sooner, I`ve got a lot going on at the moment on different branches of our trees, so it`s a little hard to keep on top of everything, but it`s nice to have things moving. Janet, et al, I wondered if your resources may have any records of Francis Dufficy (born abt. 1800) who ran away from Roscommon County to the U.S. (New Orleans) around 1846 with his wife, Alicia Lane (born abt 1810) and their six children (Henry? b.abt 1830, Bridgette b. abt 1834, Jane b. abt 1836, Michael Calhoun b. 1839, Thomas b. abt 1841, and Dennis b. abt 1844). I have cannot seem to find any records of Francis parents, siblings, marriage, etc. Family lore has it that Alicia's father was Thomas Lane. If you have any information or resource suggestions that can help in my research, I would love to hear from you. Thanks! Camilla Barror

Does anyone have any information regarding a marriage about 1880 anywhere for Peter KILROY (b. abt 1854) and Mary J. GATELY (b. abt 1859)? I can not find him anywhere in the US records for that time period and know he came from Roscommon County in 1872 to the US. Their first child was born in 1882 and I'm wondering if perhaps he went back to Ireland for his marriage? Any help on either of these folks appreciated. Cheryl W. Patten Smithfield, Maine, USA

Charlene, I too am looking for Noon family connections. Catherine Noon marrying John Reilly (O'Riley) a farmer, we think in Kilteevan, Roscommon, they had Catherine Noon who was baptised in Kilteevan in 1838 though she gave her place of birth as Wigan in Lancashire. She also had a brother James I believe. Catherine married Michael Sharkey in 1856 and lived in Chesterfield England. Hello Charlene. I don't know if this information has any relevance to the Patrick NOON for whom you are searching, but just in case, let me pass along the following: On February 3,1812, my gr-gr-grandparents, Elizabeth BEIRNE (also spelled BERN, BEIRN & BYRNE) & Thomas GAVICAN, were married at St. Joseph's Church in Boyle, County Roscommon. One of their sponsors was Anna NOON. In 1925, when Elizabeth & Thomas GAVICAN's son, Edward, was baptised, an Anna BEIRNE was his godmother. My thought is that this Anna NOON, who may or may not have been related to your Patrick, may have married one of Elizabeth's brothers. If so, it gives you a little information to go on. In any event, however, a lady named Anna NOON was living in Boyle - or very close to it - in 1812. Good luck! I see that Janet must have access to some valuable information and I wonder if she could look up Patrick Noon who was born in Roscommon March 4, 1833. He had siblings: Thomas, b. 1822; Michael, b. 1823; Bridget, b. 1828 and Cecily, b. 12/24/1830. It would be wonderful to break down this barrier and find where they were from in Roscommon and any other relatives they may have had. I would like to know if other relatives came to the US or Canada or Australia or possibly England. Thanks for any replies to my query. Charlene

Hello from Melbourne, my name is Bob Cunning and I have just joined this list. I have been searching for many years and now am asking your help. My relative is shown as Catherine CRYAN, but on her marriage Cert. it is CREON. Father Paul, a farmer. Mother Winifred (nee Lonsey), place of birth Roscommon. DOB circa 1838 It is said that the family migrated to USA when Catherine was 'little'. this may be true as her death Cert shows birthplace as Maysville Kentucky. A Grand Aunt always said that Catherine was Irish. Catherine married Charles WELCH in Melbourne in 1855. I do hope someone can assist me. Cheerrs, Bob.
