The Wood County Chapter may be contacted at: Wood County Chapter The Ohio Genealogical Society P.O. Box 722 Bowling Green, Ohio 43402-0722 * * * NOTE 1: Allen Baker ROPER (b 28 Jul 1878 - Freedom Township, Wood County, OH, d 17 Feb 1959 - Bowling Green, Wood County, OH) is the son of Thomas B. ROPER (b 26 Mar 1842 - Lincolnshire, England, d 27 Mar 1923 - Scotch Ridge, Wood County, OH) and Jeanette Stewart ROPER (b Oct 1840 - Wood, OH, d 07 Mar 1923 - Scotch Ridge, Wood County, OH). I previously posted the obituaries of each at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.roper&m=725 and http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.roper&m=726 . Allen Baker ROPER is also the brother of Stewart Davidson ROPER (b 18 May 1885 - Wood, OH, d 12 Apr 1922 - Panama), whose obituary is posted at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.roper&m=727 , and Walter T. ROPER (b Apr 1868 - Freedom Township, Wood County, OH, d 25 Oct 1930 - Toledo, Lucas County, OH), whose obituary is posted at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.roper&m=728 . NOTE 2: The Ohio death certificate seems to have the names as "Alan B. ROPER", showing date of death as 17 Feb 1959 at Bowling Green, Wood County. The death certificate also has Allen's age as 82 rather than 80. This death certificate is further identified as Wood County Ohio Volume 15699, Certificate 14740. I have NOT seen the underlying death certificate cited by this Index entry. NOTE 3: Though Allen B. ROPER is shown to reside in Center Township in the 1900 Census, he first appears in the 1880 Census residing at Freedom Township, at age 1. The family of Thomas Baker and Jeannette Stewart ROPER are previously shown to reside in Webster Township in 1870. I am inclined to believe that Allen Baker ROPER actually was born in Freedon Township. See my Post "1880 Census Record for Thomas and Jeanette Stewart ROPER, of Wood, OH" at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.roper&m=725.2 for details. NOTE 4: The identified son was Gerald L.? ROPER (b Jun 1898 - Center Township, Wood County, OH). He is shown in the 1900 Census enumeration residing with his parents. He is shown again at age 11 in the 1910 enumeration residing with his parents "Allan" and "Gertrude". A Gerald A. ROPER (b 02 Jun 1898 - Pemberville, OH) is shown to have enlisted in the Army at 07 Oct 1918 with assignment at Students' Army Training Corps University of Toledo. He is shown to have had an Honorable Discharge at 10 Dec 1918. In 1930, Gerald ROPER is shown to be residing in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, with wife Catherine. They seem to have married about five years earlier (~1925). No children are shown in this household at 1930.
