My grandmother is Emma Grace (ROPER) RAISH who is their daughter (b: 10 August 1894 d: 13 May 1934). I believe the middle initial for Charles in the 1900 Oklahoma census is a D. I could have Emma (ROPER) RAISH's year of birth wrong on the records that I have. Her headstone and death certificate state she was born in 1894, however, the Oklahoma census states 1891. Her death certificate states that she was born in Chicago, IL. That fits with the Oklahoma Census. Anyway, her obituary (published in the Montrose Daily Press 14 May 1934) states she is survived by "her mother in Pueblo, a brother Earl of Cedaredge, a brother Lisle of Clayton, N.M. and a sister, Mrs. Effie Carol of Clayton, N. Mexico." (I am sure these names were misspelled) My mother has a post card dated 19 December 1938 from Pueblo, CO that I believe is from Emma Almira ROPER. Her last name is REID when the post card was written in her hand. I sent for this woman's (REID) death certificate and copies of the newspaper obituary. There is no "obituary" only a notice of her death and when the funeral will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Pueblo, Pueblo County, CO. Her death certificate states she is the daughter of Joseph WELCH born 6 September 1867 in Elkhorn, WI. Her husband at the time of death is A. J. REID. The LDS site 1880 Sugar Creek, Walworth County, WI census lists Joseph WELCH with children Emma (age 18 born in WI) and Chester (age 12 born in WI). Apparently the wife's name is not reable. Orris O. Carroll is a witness at the marriage of Emma Grace ROPER and Walter C. RAISH in Trinidad, Las Animas County, CO on 18 June 1914. My mother remembers that Emma's sister and family moved to Oregon. I have SS application for Effie Blanche (ROPER) CARROLL (b: 4 April 1893, Beatrice, Gage County, NE) applied for Social Security Number 544-38-8591 in Medford, Oregon on 23 September 1953. (The year of birth differs from the 1900 census, but so much fits???) She states her father's name Charles Delbert ROPER and mother is Emma Almira WELCH. My mother recalls Orris O. and Effie Blanche (ROPER) CARROLL may have had two children whose names are Orris and Effie also. I have not been able to track Earl ROPER or Lyle ROPER. I plan to contact the Colorado archives to see if they have a death certificate for Charles Delbert ROPER. If they don't have one, I next plan to contact New Mexico. Toni Richard TURK has submitted a great deal of information to the LDS site. The FamilySearch International Genealogical Index has a Charles ROPER (b: aboutr 1871, Euclid, Cuyahoga, OH) born to Orlando Stewart and Marie (CHURCHILL) ROPER. I don't believe this is the Charles ROPER I am seeking, but you never know. . . I will be more than happy to share any of the records I have if anyone would like copies.
