He was from Tyre first marriage to Malinda Edens. Samuel, my 2nd great-grandfather Elijah and their younger brother Amos moved to Pickens County, Georgia after the Civil War. Samuel and Elijah were both Baptist preachers in Pickens and surrounding areas. I forgot to mention in my earlier email that Amos Roper, Samuel's brother, married Mary Keith. She was the daughter of Cornelius Keith and Harriett Lynch. A quick Rootsweb search turned up one Stephen D. Keith, who was a cousin to Mary Keith Roper. I have run across quite a few Keiths in the Pickens area. I believe they attended Oolenoy Baptist Church and lived in the same area as the Ropers. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=loisbranch&id=I29 189 PS -- Dolores -- I think I have more information on the Keiths and Lynchs in those files I told you I would dig through -- maybe I'll get to them before the end of this week. One is the son of Tyre Lewis ROPER and wf. Dorcas Jane MOSLEY ROPER. No other real info on him. The other Samuel ROPER was the son of Joshua ROPER and Mary SINGLETON ROPER. This 2nd one would have been born in the late 1700s-very early 1800s. The first Samuel, son of Tyre, would have been born abt 25-30 yrs. later than the other one - at least. I know this doesn't help much, but I can't find anything else. I don't have wives for either or children. S. D. KEITH makes me think of the name Spartan David which was a very popular given name in the area at the time and many of them were called S.D., but I cannot find an S.D. in the KEITH family book at all. KEITH, b. 1808, md. Annie GRIFFIN; managed hotel at Oolenoy (Valley), d. 12 Dec 1880. Children: William C. Edwin Foster James R. Lula Also, many of the KEITHS are bur. at Oolenoy Baptist Church, but quite a few attended Peters Creek Bapt. Church as well and are buried there. The KEITHS have a very long history in Oolenoy Valley in the NW section of Pickens Co., and more beautiful country you will never see!
