    1. Re: Marriage of Clement ROPER and Mary EVESON on 30 APR 1620 at Fishtoft, Lincoln, England
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Roper, Eveson Classification: Will Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kgDBAEB/674.1.1 Message Board Post: A transcription of the 1623 will of the Rev. John ROPER of Fishtoft, Lincolnshire reads: In the name of God Amen 1623 the 27th of March I John Roper of Fishtofte in the County of Lincolne Clearke being sick in body but of whole and perfect remembrance doe make my last will and testament in forme and manner following: Imprimis I commend my soule into the hands of my gracious God through Jesus Christ and I desire to have my body to be buried in the churchyard of Fishtofte by my sonne Andrew: It I give to my sonne Hugh one donde quie [cow?] with her calfe & unto my daughter Elizabeth one red flect [flecked] quie, unto my daughter Margaret one blacke flect quie to my daughter Alice one red flect quie: unto my daughter Ellen one trusse bed and a feather bed with ye furniture: unto my daughter Joane one cow which I will yt my wife shall have to maintaine her as long as my wife liveth: to my sonne Thomas 20s: [20 shillings] unto my sonne Clement 2s. and to his wife 2s.: and I do further give unto my sonne Clement such of my English bookes as shalbe thought fitte for hi! s use by the praizers of my goods. It I do give all yt rest of my goods to Bettris my wife whome I make my sole and only executrix to pay my debtes discharge my legacies and to bring my body to ye graue as they whose names are underwritten are witnesses. Anthony Ingoldsby: Sen: Anthony Ingoldsby: Jun: Robart Peppar Richard Woodes The will mentions John ROPER's son, Clement and his wife (presumably Mary EVESON). It is probable this Clement ROPER, son of the Rev. John ROPER is not the Clement ROPER who sailed from London to Virginia in 1623 aboard the "Southampton". It is known that Clement ROPER, son of Leonard ROPER of Algakirk, Lincolnshire (see previous posting) was an apprentice in London in 1616, aged 18 (ref: Leonard ROPER's will). He was likely to have been apprenticed to a master who belonged to one of the London Livery Companies, many of which were stockholders of the Virgina Company and his apprenticeship, qualifying him to belong to a Livery Company himself, would have been completed by 1619. Taking these facts into consideration together with the knowledge that the "Southampton" sailed from London make it highly probable that this Clement ROPER was the 1623 migrant to America.
