This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Roper Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kgDBAEB/785.5.1 Message Board Post: In my previous Post above, I speculated that George ROPER (b abt 1830 - England, d aft 1880 - Prob Denver, CO) was the son of a Gorge and Meriam ROPER, who were enumerated in the 1851 Census residing in District 4e, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. I have subsequently located the 1841 Census record for this same family and it shows George ROPER, age 11, residing within the household. The 1841 Census of England does NOT show the relationship of members of each household, but George appears within what appears to be a natural sequence of children. Here is what the 1841 Census record reveals: Census of England -- 1841 Church Lane, Parish of Chesterfield, Borough of Chesterfield, Derbyshire Household Number 1196, Enumeration District 10 TNA Ref. No. HO107-0194, Image No. 171, Folio No. 3\44, Page No. 13 John ROPER, Male, age 30, Plasterer, Born within the County (Derbyshire) Marian ROPER, Female, age 30, Born within the County (Derbyshire) Elizabeth ROPER, Female, age 12, Born within the County (Derbyshire) George ROPER, Male, age 11, Born within the County (Derbyshire) Richard ROPER, Male, age 8, within the County (Derbyshire) John ROPER, Male, age 4, Born within the County (Derbyshire) Sarah ROPER, Female, age 1, Born within the County (Derbyshire) The original image of this Census record is available at the subscription based website OriginsNetwork.com. * This Census record also gives us two independent observations of teh ages of the parents John ROPER and Meriam or Marian ROPER. John is shown to be age 30 in 1841 (b abt 1811) and age 45 in 1851 (b abt 1806). Meriam or Merian is shown to be age 30 in 1841 (b abt 1811) and age 44 in 1851 (b abt 1807). Hopefully, this information will give researchers with a singular interest in this family a bit of traction!
