Dandridge and Mary Jane ROPER are shown to be residing in the My District, Henrico, in the 1850 Census: United States Census -- 1850 My District, Henrico, VA 06 Oct 1850 Line 8, Dwelling 798, Family 798, Dandridge BALL, Age 37, Male, Farmer, RE $3,000, Born Virginia Line 9, Dwelling 798, Family 798, Mary J. BALL, Age 27, Female, Born Virginia Line 10, Dwelling 798, Family 798, Augustus W. BALL, Age 2 9/12, Male, Born Virginia [Image 94 of 116 at the Ancestry.com presentation of 1850 Census data forthis jurisdiction.] There is a Samuel BALL, age 61, born Virginia, residing nearby, with Francis BALL, age 28, and Elizabeth J. BALL, also in his household. This might be Dandridge BALL's father, but this is a speculative ascription. Also adjacent to Samuel BALL is a Thomas A. SMITH, age 29, and Lucy A. SMITH, age 29, with a child Mary S. SMITH. Recall that Mary Jane ROPER, had a sister named Lucy Ann ROPER who was born before 1826. Also recall that Edward ROPER's sister Mildred ROPER married a Thomas SMITH. There is also a Mary J. BALL, age 10, residing within Samuel BALL's household, presenting the possibility that Mary Jane Roper BALL may have given birth to a daughter prior to her death. There is also shown a Susan TRICE, age 34, who appears very possibly to be the SAME individual shown in Dandridge BALL's household in Charles City County (below). The Samuel BALL household was enumerated on 15 Aug 1860. In 1870, Dandridge and Sarah E. BALL, age 57 and 35, respectively, were residing with son Robert H. BALL, age, 11, and Susan Trice BALL, age 40, in Harrison, Charles City County, Virginia.
