Tere is a marriage record recorded at Chestron District, Cambridgeshire during Sept. A James and Mary Ann [Dawkins] ROPER, age 35 and 34, respectively, with children James, age 4, and Sarah, age 1, as well as mother-in-law Sarah DAWKINS, age 64, and nephews Samuel and William HOWLETT, age 16 and 13, are residing at Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire. James ROPER is shown to have been born at South Lapham, Norfolk. Esther is shown to have been born in Soham. Kitty is shown to have been born in Fordham. Caroline, Louisa and Elizabeth are shown to have been born in Isleham and Mary is shown to have been born in Lewisham, Kent. Esther is shown to be a widow and annuitant. The daughters are all shown to be unmarried. Also in 1851, there is a William and Mary SMITH, age 50 and 48, respectively, enumerated in Lewisham, Kent. Included within this household are sons Aaron SMITH,, age 19, and George SMITH, age 16, as well as stepsons Frederick ROPER, age 15, and Elijah ROPER, age 9. It seems likely that Mary is also a daughter of John and Esther ROPER and Frederick and Elijah were the brothers of the Mary ROPER residing within her grandmother’s household in There is a death record for an Ester ROPER recorded during March Quarter 1852, at Newmarket District, Cambridgeshire [Volume 3b, Page 347]. * * Census of England – 1841 Fordham, Registrar’s District Soham (Enumeration District 8), Supt.
