Surnames: Roper, Williams Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kgDBAEB/803 Message Board Post: Charles ROPER is mentioned in a probate ad appearing in the Virginia Gazette on 16 May 1771 [at Page 3, Coulmn 1] and 23 May 1771 [at Page 3, Column 2]: "To Be SOLD (pursuant to the last Will and Testament of Mr. Thomas Williams, desceased) to the highest Bidder on Monday the 17th of June, at Dinwiddie Courthouse, being Court Day, if fair, otherwise at the July Court following, THE LAND and PLANTATION, near Petersburg, whereon the said Williams lived, containing four Hundred and ten Acres, with sundry improvements thereon, also two other Tracts adjoining the same, one containing four Hundred and forty four, and the other three Hundred and ninety three Acres, on each of them there is a great Quantity of fine Timber, of Pine more especially. Twelve Months Credit will be allowed for one Half the Purchase Money, and two Years for the other Half, on giving Bond and approved security.
