Surnames: Roper Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kgDBAEB/780 Message Board Post: A number of secondary sources identify the various children of John and Alice ROPER of Dedham, Norfolk, MA, but some omit readily available genealogical detail appearing in the parish register of Dedham, Norfolk, MA: Rachel ROPER (b 18 MAR 1639 - Dedham, Norfolk, MA), dau of John and Alice ROPER Mary ROPER (Chr 22 SEP 1639 - Dedham, Norfolk, MA), dau of "ROPER" Hannah ROPER (b 05 APR 1642 - Dedham, Norfolk, MA), dau of John and Alice ROPER Benjamin ROPER (b 23 FEB 1644 - Dedham, Norfolk, MA), son of John and Alice ROPER Ephraim ROPER (b 23 FEB 1644 - Dedham, Norfolk, MA), son of John and Alice ROPER Nathaniell ROPER (Chr 02 MAR 1645 - Dedham, Norfolk, MA) [IGI Batch No. C500361] It is UNCLEAR whether the Mary ROPER shown is actually the daughter of John and Alice ROPER, however, there were NO OTHER ROPER births or Baptims in this parish. Some secondary sources show Benjamin and Nathaniel as the same child, a Nathaniel Benjamin. Though Benjamin's record shows a BIRTH and Nathaniel's shows a Christening or Baptismal date, this seems to me to be a stretch and I am NOT aware of the primary evidence (if any) in support of such a construction. * Secondary sources show two elder daughters named Alice and Elizabeth, who are asserted to have been born in England. Some sources also show younger daughters Ruth and Sarah. One secondary source reporting to the IGI shows a Ruth ROPER, dau of John and Alice ROPER, b APR 1655. The existence of Sarah ROPER is well supported in the record by the extant marriage record showing her marrying John MACKINAB on 18 APR 1669 in Dedham, Norfolk, MA. [IGI Batch No. M500361] Alice ROPER is shown by secondary sources reporting to the IGI to have married Thomas ADAMS on 02 DEC 1656 at Charlestown, Middlesex, MA. Secondary sources report to the IGI that Rachel ROPER married Archelaus COURSER in 1661. Secondary sources report to the IGI that Hannah ROPER was married to Thomas BARBER on 25 JUN 1667 at Charlestown, Middlesex, MA. Ephraim ROPER is shown in the parish records to have married Hanna GOBLE on 20 NOV 1677 at Concord, Middlesex, MA. [IGI Batch No. M500681]
