    2. Following is the recent obituary on my aunt. Also, at the funeral I was advised on a Roper get-togther slated this year at Branson, Mo. Anyone have any details on this? E. Alan Long, Holiday Island, Arkansas ----------------------- >From the Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Margaret L. Shields, 83, of Gentry died Sunday at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Higfhfill to Bob and Mary Roper Cowden. She painted the faces on the original Pool of SIioam characters and was a member of East Kenwood Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded om death by her husband. Wayne Shields,two sisters. Sybil C. Long and Larue Walker, and one brother, Henry Cowden. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Shields of Joplin, Mo., and Terrel Shields of Siloam Springs, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Service is 12 p.m. Wednesday at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs with Marvin Loyd officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.     3. Alan, I am not familiar with the Roper names you mentioned; but myh great grandmother had a brother who moved from Saline County, IL, to Fulton County AR sometime before 1855. Could there be a connection? He married 2ndm I don't know whether in IL or in AR, Mary McGlasson and their firirst child was born in Fulton County. I might add that I taught school in Gentry, AR, the last half of the 1949-1950 school year. I grew up in Calhoun Countyh, AR and some of my Dad's family settled in AR also. They were mostly in the southern part of the state. Can you tello me more about who your ancestors were? Maybe we could exchange information. Sincerely, Roddy L.
