In 1881, Henry ROPER is shown to be age 42. In 1891, Henry ROPER is shown to be age 56. In the 1901 Census enumeration he appears to be age 63. His year of birth therefore appears to be 1835-39. He is consistently shown to have been born in Ipswich in all four of these Census enumerations. IGI Batch No. C012772 shows a Henry Osborne ROPER, son of Elizabeth ROPER, who was Christened on 15 JUL 1838 at Saint Matthew, Ipswich, Suffolk, England. The English Civil Registration Index shows a birth of a Henry ROPER recorded at Ipswich, Suffolk, during the June Quarter 1840. It probably makes sense to get a look at that birth record appearing in the Ipswich District records, Suffolk County, at Volume 12, Page 337. Someone with a keen interest in this family should probably try to obtain copies of the original records cited. The 1841 and 1851 Census records would probably also give a better indication as to the prior generation and whether these are the correct records.
