Zella ROPER is first shown in the Census in 1880 as "Gazella L. ROPER", at age 2, residing with her parents Lewis (age 32) and Josephine ROPER (age 27) in Harmony Township, Posey County, IN, on 04 JUN 1880. Also living in the Lewis and Josephine ROPER household that year were: Robert M. (age 13), Henry L. (age 12), Priscilla J. (age 10), Parmelia I. (age 8), William J. (age 7), Lutitia (age 4), Gazella L. (age 2), and Emma M. (age 1/12, born May 1880). Knowing that "Zella" is short for "Gazella" might ultimately help in locating any extant records of Zella's disposition after 1900. In 1900, Zella is enumerated in the household of Lther CROSNOE residing in Castor Township, Stoddard County, Missouri. That year, Zella is shown to be age 22, born in July 1878. Zella's younger brother Oval Vernon ROPER, age 7, born May 1893, is living in the CROSNOE household that year. It seems likely that Zella's precise date of birth appears on one or both of her marriage records. I would encourage you to obtain that precise date, which may help to leverage the location of Zella under some new married name or alternatively may help to find Zella in death records. It also seems possible that Oval ROPER might be a clue to Zella's whereabouts. Perhaps he was still living with or near her in 1910. I will e-mail you each of the cited Census records.
