The copy of this book in the North Carolina State Library is shown to have Library of Congress Catalogue No. GR 929.3 V8br Y24p 1787. * The following ROPERs appeared on List "A": ROPER, William: 0 - 3 - 0 - 2 - 10 ROPER, David:... 1 - 2 - 0 - 3 - 16 [at page 241] The counts are for White Males above age 16 and under age 21, Blacks above 16, Blacks under 16, Horses, Cattle. Thus, David ROPER is shown to have one White Male age 16 to 20, 2 Black age Sixteen or More, ZERO Blacks under age 16, 3 hourses and 16 head of cattle. This return REQUIRED identification of the NAMES of tithable males age 21 and up, so by implication there were NO males age 21 or more residing in either William ROPER's or David ROPER's household at the date of inclusion on the 1787 List. William and David ROPER are shown to have paid their Tax on May 30, 1787 [at Page 254]. William ROPER is shown to own three (3) blacks age 16 or more, two (2) horses, mares or colts, and ten (10) head of cattle. David ROPER is shown to have one White male age 16 to 20 (b abt 1767-71) residing in his household, two (2) blacks over age 16, three (3) horses and sixteen (16) head of cattle. On List "B": ROSSER, John: 1 - 2 - 5 - 4 - ? I believe that List "A" is for St. Andrews Parish (North of the Meherrin River) and List "B" is for Meherrin Parish (South of the Meherrin River).
