To my complete surprise, there was one! The index for the Circuit Court Minute Book, 1843-1847, lists a divorce between a William Ainsworth and Mary RAPER (which is most likely ROPER). The case # is 316 and is dated May 1844. This divorce could help explain why she went back to using her maiden name of Roper, and why her son James is also using the surname of Roper. This also raises the question then of who is the father of Margaret Roper. Since I found this, I was curious if there were any other records involving William Ainsworth. I found a William Ainsworth in the index for the Chancery Court Loose Records, 1843-1852, case numbers 254 and 490. There is another entry in this index for him in the Chancery Court Loose Records, 1832-1842, case number 103. In the Chancery Court Minutes Book, 1832-1842 index, a James Ainsworth, Samuel Ainsworth, William Ainsworth Sr. and William Ainsworth Jr. are found. William is also found in other Chancery court records. I will continue to look further into these documents and this family.
