This if further supported by the John Roper, > aka John Roper, Sr. and his son John Roper, Jr. moving to Cumberland County, KY to appear > in the 1820 census where his son David Roper is residing." There is a Will abstract shown within the book "Caswell County, North Carolina, Will Books, 1777-1814 ; 1784 Tax List", By Katharine Kerr Kendall, Mary Frances Kerr Donaldson at p. 76, showing the payment of a legacy by Samuel PAUL's estate to a David ROPER. The reference is to a Settlement appearing at page 54, of Will Book D for Caswell County. The distribution is shown to have been made on 03 Feb 1801 and reported at the April 1801 Court. Dave summarizes this abstract: "Caswell Co. NC Will Books 1777-1814: p.76: Div estate of Saml. Paul to Jesse Bennett who married Pattey Paul, to Richard Kiggans who married Rachel Cox the daughter of said Saml. Paul, to Robert Paul, to David Roper, to James Paul, and to Judith Paul widow. 3 Feb 1801. Div by Dudley Gatewood, Richd. Sanders, Starling Gunn." See: http://www.roperld.com/rnc18.htm This distribution seems to have taken place shortly before David ROPER's Caswell marriage to Nancy LEWIS on 13 Jul 1801. * The sale of property of Samuel PAUL deceased is reported Caswell Will Book D, Page 22, and curiously the Inventory is afterwards reported at Page 33. * Have you seen the underlying probate records for Samuel PAUL's estate? How does Samuel PAUL connect to David ROPER. of Caswell, NC? Do you think this reflects a previous marriage by this David ROPER?
