This Will names wife Polly ROPER and Francis KEEN and the executors and sole beneficiaries. The Will expressly bequeaths land purchased from John C. ROPER to Polly and Keen. While the purchase of the land may be strictly incidental, given the memorialization of Philip LAWSON's name within the ROPER family, I cannot help but wonder whether John C. ROPER might have been Philip LAWSON's father-in-law, selling or giving land to his son-in-law to set him up with a farm upon marriage. I realize that this is sheer speculation. I find the absence of mention of any children to be more consistent with a childless couple. Perhaps someone with a stronger interest in this family might post a transcription, making it available to the LAWSON and the Cumberland Message Boards.
