Author: waroper Surnames: Roper Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.roper/1868/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Within the book "American Militia in the Frontier Wars, 1790-1796," by Murtie June Clark, there are identified two ROPERs who were called into United States service as part of the Kentucky frontier militia: George ROPER is shown within a muster roll of a Company of Volunteers under the command of Captain William LEWIS, Lt. Col. William RUSSELL's Regiment, in the Service of the United States. This company seems to have served from September 20 to November 11, 1793, and was mustered out at Fort Washington on November 11, 1793. In remarks, George ROEPR is shown to have served October 2 to November 9. [National Archives RG94:54 Box 4] (Page 31) Stephen ROPER is shown to have served in the Company of Mounted Volunteers under the command of Capt. Joseph COLVIN, Major Notley CONN's Battalion, in the service of the United States from July 10, to October 23, 1794. He is shown to have lost his horse on September 26, 1794.
