ROPER, who seemed to act as Registrar during an election which was contested. The contest is characterized as William M. LOWE v. Joseph WHEELER. I found this deposition with the book "Index to the Miscellaneous Documents of the House of Representatives for the First Session of the Forty Seventh Congress, 1881-82, in 27 Volumes" (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1882). The LOWE v. WHEELER matter is shown to be Miscellaneous Document No. 22. I stumbled across this online while looking for something else and thought it might be of interest to someone connected to the Madison, AL, ROPER family. I have NOT fully studied this material, assessed the information or sought to identify or place this Henry B. ROPER but thought it better to post some information as a finding aid both to return and examine it later and to improve the visibility and accessibility of this material for others.
