I was examining the image of the original primary record for the marriage of James ROPER to Peggy McNally on 23 Dec 1819 in Blount County, TN, and found that this couple had been married by Rev. William FAGG, of the Methodist Episcopal Church. I previously noted this find within Frank BATCHELOR's thread "James Roper, Thomas Roper and Philip L. Roper" in this post: "James ROPER (b abt 1786 - NC) m Peggy McNALLY in Blount, TN, on 23 Dec 1819" (14 Mar 2014 3:41AM GMT) http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.roper/1787.5.1/mb.ashx I had previously noted the presence of James ROPER (b abt 1786 - NC) in Monroe County in the 1850 Census in this post within the same thread: "Error in Inferred Year of Birth of James ROPER (b abt 1786 - NC)" (14 Mar 2014 1:15AM GMT) http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.roper/1787.5/mb.ashx * * * I had previously called attention to the biographical sketch of a William F. ROPER within this post about a decade ago: "Biography of William F. ROPER (b 10 May 1819 - TN)" (24 May 2003 5:17PM GMT) http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.roper/608/mb.ashx Secondary sources showed the middle name of this William F. ROPER as "Fagg," though I have never seen a primary record that supports this particular ascription. See my post: "Obituary of Bill David ROPER (b 5 Jun 1934 - MO, d 25 Oct 1999 - Carthage, Jasper, MO)" (24 May 2003 7:13AM GMT) http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.roper/606/mb.ashx * * * While making an ascription based upon linking a primary record in one place to a secondary source assertion in another place is admittedly a little tenuous, it seems to me that the marriage of James ROPER by a Rev. William FAGG in Blount County on 23 Dec 1819 and the naming of a child William Fagg ROPER born in East Tennessee on 10 May 1819 cannot be a coincidence! That Blount County was the place of marriage of a contemporaneous ROPER shows the presence of a ROPER family in that place at the date of William Fagg ROPER's birth. David ROPER, of Greene, MO, was known to be active in the Methodist Church. Blount County, TN, and adjacent counties seems to be a place to look for David ROPER prior to his migration to Missouri! Researchers with an interest in this ROPER family are encouraged to make a thorough study of the primary records in Blount County, Tennessee, and adjacent counties.
