Hi Folks, I am descended from Christopher Roper (c1664 - 1737) of Chideock, Dorset, England. I would be delighted for any ancestral information on Christopher Roper. In addition, I would be glad to hear from any distant or close Roper family cousins and to share family tree information. Christopher Roper was baptized in Powerstock and West Milton, Dorset, England, on January 26th., 1664. He married twice: firstly to Mary ? (???? - 1711) and then to Elizabeth Cheek. They lived in Mapperton and Chideock, Dorset, England. Christopher had children: Henry (1689), John (1693), John (1694), Jane (1697), Matthew (1701), Grace (1726) and John (1729). He died and was buried in Chideock on February 26th., 1737.

I started trying to find out about Charles a couple of years ago. I completely gave up as it was SO frustrating!!! I just recently started looking again and am finding myself getting frustrated again! :) Here's what I'm trying to find: Where in England Charles and Ann came from, what ship they came over on (I'm beginning to think they swam!!!), and where they are buried. I'm also trying to find information about their son Charles. I would love to know where he is buried also. I know that he was born in 1758 in Dinwiddie, VA and that he died in 1837 in the same place. He was married to Elizabeth Butler. Here is how I am connected: Basically just follow the Charles' down. Charles b. in 1720 in England had a son Charles born in 1758 VA who had a son Charles born in 1787 VA. He had a son Marcus Lindsey Roper born in 1825 TN. Marcus had a son Edgar Newton Roper (twin of Edwin Jasper Roper) born in 1870 TN. Edgar's son was Edwin Justin Roper born in 1907 Hopkinsville, Ky. E.J. was my grandfather. Someone has said that he passed away in Hopkinsville, but he actually passed away in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He is buried in the Springfield Township cemetery in Mongo, IN. This cemetery is only 3 miles from my house! E.J. had only one child, my father Bobby Edwin Roper. If anyone has any more information, I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks so much! Found Elizabeth on the 1850 Caswell Co NC census. Her information and the three dau. listed as: Milton Twp. Caswell Co NC Elizabeth H. Roper 1818 (32) Virigina Mary Elizabeth 1841 (9) Isabella C 1843 (7) Alice 1846 (4) The children best as I can tell were born in Missouri. Clemontine was'nt listed. William H. Roper researchers, Pollyanna's post regarding Wiley B. Roper and wife Manerva being in Benton County, Ark., in 1870 caught my attention as my Roper ancestors were in the same county at the same time, but I show no Wiley B. in my database. My great-grandfather was Phillip Maulkey Roper, who was born in Richardson County, Neb., 18 April 1869, and died 28 May 1950 at Highfill, Benton County, Arkansas. At times he lived at Elm Springs on the Benton/Washington county line in Arkansas, as well as Gentry County, Mo., and Peggs, Okla. P.M.'s parents were Minerva Jane Penrod, born 4 October 1845, possibly in Blackford, Nebraska, died 4 January 1920 at Elm Springs, Arkansas; and James Henry Roper, born 25 December 1829, Monroe County, Kentucky, probably to Hannah B. Martin and John C. "Jackie" Roper, died 3 January 1926 at Elm Springs, Washington County, AR. The similarity of names strikes me. Additionally, James Henry and Minerva Jane may have had triplets, sex and birthdates unknown. James Henry appears to have also been married to a Melrina, probably around 1861 in Illinois, who died young. Children of James Henry and Minerva include siblings Frances Cenia Roper born 26 September 1864; Samuel J. Roper born 1867; Phillip Maulkey Roper born 18 April 1869; Hilford G. Roper born July 1871; Tearl Bealy Roper born 15 July 1873; Elizabeth Emily Roper born 16 May 1875; Phleming T. Roper born 17 July 1877; Pamela Ann Roper born 3 August 1879; Ophelia Roper born 17 January 1884; and Luna Wilford Roper born 25 September 1889. Does anyone know if Wiley B. ties in to this family? This came from a list I am on. Please check it out to see if you find old lost Photo's of your family. I don't know this man. I hope it helps someone out here. Hope Engelmann In my travels, I see family photos lost in antique shops. I think this is sad, so I decided to do something about it. So I bought every family photo that I can find with a surname on it and set up a website so that the descendants of these people can reclaim their lost loved ones. I have been able to help many people. Check out my website. Maybe I can help you, as well. Robert D. King http://fourkings.freeyellow.com/Page3.html
