They both might have been previously married. Catharine was born in VA 1819 - 1822. She had connections with a R.W. Roper (probably Randell/Randol W. Roper also born VA about 1803). She may have been married for a very short time to a Ridley Walker. I was told when I was a little girl by my uncle that Jesse descended from Claiborn Parr of SC. Catharines last child was born about 1862 in Pickens Co, AL. Both Jesse and Catharine died during the Civil War time era according to the census. The older children took care of the younger children in Pickens County, AL till the older children started families of their own. By the 1900 census some of the Parr family moved to Fayette Co., AL... Then in about 1912 some moved on to Marion Co., AL..... In the late 1930's to the 1950's alot of this Parr family left Alabama. Some descendents returned but alot are still wandering......

Hello Everyone, I'm new to this list & wonder if anyone could please assist me with the following query? Trying to find any information on Fred Roper, Showman who had a stage act called Fred Roper & His Wonderful Midgets. He & the act used to perform during the 1930's within the UK & then during the 1940's within the US. I have seen an old clipping from the 'New Yorker' on-line which states he was stranded there because of the War etc.... Fred Roper was born in the UK - date / place, as yet unknown but possibly born around the turn of the 20th century?? Fred married a Welsh girl - Elsie M Lewis, b 29 Jan 1911, Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales (who would have been a half aunt within our family). She was small in stature & was part of his touring troupe of Midgets both in the UK & US. I'm uncertain at this time if they married within the UK or the US. Fred & Elsie had a daughter called Cherie (Sherrie / Sherry??) ROPER, who was I believe born in the US & is still alive there today. The couple stay in the US & settled in Florida, where I believe that they both died, certainly Elsie did. She died 1 Jan 2002 Saint Petersburg, Pinellas, Florida. Any help would be very gratefully received............. Thanks to all & Regards, Margaret Anne, UK.

Some secondary sources show Benjamin and Nathaniel as the same child, a Nathaniel Benjamin. Though Benjamin's record shows a BIRTH and Nathaniel's shows a Christening or Baptismal date, this seems to me to be a stretch and I am NOT aware of the primary evidence (if any) in support of such a construction. * Secondary sources show two elder daughters named Alice and Elizabeth, who are asserted to have been born in England. Some sources also show younger daughters Ruth and Sarah. One secondary source reporting to the IGI shows a Ruth ROPER, dau of John and Alice ROPER, b APR 1655. The existence of Sarah ROPER is well supported in the record by the extant marriage record showing her marrying John MACKINAB on 18 APR 1669 in Dedham, Norfolk, MA. [IGI Batch No. M500361] Alice ROPER is shown by secondary sources reporting to the IGI to have married Thomas ADAMS on 02 DEC 1656 at Charlestown, Middlesex, MA. Secondary sources report to the IGI that Rachel ROPER married Archelaus COURSER in 1661. Secondary sources report to the IGI that Hannah ROPER was married to Thomas BARBER on 25 JUN 1667 at Charlestown, Middlesex, MA. Ephraim ROPER is shown in the parish records to have married Hanna GOBLE on 20 NOV 1677 at Concord, Middlesex, MA. [IGI Batch No. M500681]

They were daughters of John Z. Hissem and Ida Teeter. He and his wife died in Nebraska of unknown causes and the children, that included a son, Joseph T., were farmed out to their Teeter relatives. The girls were raised by Jacob P. and Nancie Teeter Rapp of Chicago. John Z. Hissem's line can be traced back to Thomas Hissom, born in 1750, who fought at the battle of Long Island. His father, another Thomas, was born in about 1720 in Trenton. Nothing certain is known beyond that. Beth's nephew was a war hero. He was Joseph Metcalf Hissem. ROPER (b 20 JAN 1906, d 16 MAR 1974 - Columbus, KS) is shown enumerated in the 1920 Census with his parents James M. and Amanda ROPER, of Lyon, Cherokee County, KS. The eldest child in the household, George ROPER, age 18, James M. ROPER, Jr., 14, and ALL of the younger children are shown to have been born in KANSAS, so this family seems to have been in Kansas since at least 1902. It appears to me that the Census record for your grandmother in 1930 would be amongst the records for the household of John and Mary McBRIDE, of Quapaw, Ottawa County, OK (Enumeration District 34). That record shows a Josephine McBRIDE born in 1907 in MO, with Father born in Indiana and Mother born in KS. Josephine's parents appear to have married about 1900. I can send you this Census record if you like. It is unclear to me the basis for your belief that the McBRIDEs might have been of Native American origin or the basis for the belief that this Josephine might have been a LINSCOTT. I would suggest that you use traditional genealogical techniques to VERIFY each piece of information you find and to cross check each fact using several sources. I believe that if you push back to previous Census enumerations you will probably find that Josephine is consistently a McBRIDE and that the record you found is merely coincidental.

THis James ROPER is shown with Last Residence at Zip Code 66739 (Galena, Cherokee, KS). Is Josephine Beatrice McBRIDE you mention the Josephine ROPER shown in the Social Security Death Index with DOB 06 JUN 1907, DOD 02 SEP 1992 and SSN 496-05-2179? This Josephine ROPER is shown with Last Residence in Zip Code 33511 (Brandon, Hillsborough, FL).. This James ROPER seems likely to be the James M. ROPER shown in the 1930 Census enumeration residing in Lyon, Cherokee County, Kansas (Enumeration District 21) at age 24. This James M. ROPER is shown to have been born in Illinois to parents born in IL and MO, respectively. THis James M. ROPER is shown to have married at age 21 (~1927) and the wife is shown to be Victoria ROPER, age 17. Victoria is shown to have been born in MO to parents both born in MO. In 1930, they had one child, a daughter Mary E., age 1 5/12. Mary E. ROPER is shown to have been born in KS, putting James M. and Victoria ROPER in KS since at least mid 1928. On the previous Census page is a James M. and Amanda ROPER, age 58 and 48, respectively, who seem likely to have been James M. ROPER's parents. The household of George W. ROPER, age 28, is also enumerated in an adjacent record. If you do NOT have ready access to this Census record, let me know and I will send you the images.
