    1. [ROOT-LO-ANNOUN] RootsWeb Mailing Lists
    2. RootsWeb Administration
    3. Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team

    1. [ROOT-LO-ANNOUN] Welcome to RootsWeb Listsowners Announcements
    2. You have been added to this list because you are the owner of at least one RootsWeb Mailing List. Can’t remember what list or lists you own? Keep reading. First thing you will need to do is reregister for the new Mailing List system. If you haven’t reregistered since March 1st, then you need to do it. Why? Because we looked at the code that was running our Mailing List system, discovered it was 15 years old with lots of patches and knew it was time to start over. We kept the lists, and the emails, but we deleted the passwords. And that is why you need to reregistered. How do I reregister? If you like to read instructions: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupadmin If you just want to go ahead and try: https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/postorius/lists/ and click the Signup button. Signup under the email you used for Mailing Lists. Respond to the confirmation email. What do I do if I have more than one email? You can have multiple emails under one account. After you have signed up with the first one, go to the Add an email page: https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/accounts/email/ and add your other email. DO NOT DELETE AN EMAIL unless you want it removed from everywhere in the system. Every list you own and subscribe to. There is no undo. How do I see all my lists? Click on your user name and then Mailman settings. It is this URL: https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/postorius/accounts/subscriptions/ Do I need to set my preferences? Please set your preferences early on in this process. You will save yourself a lot of grief. General email preferences are described here: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/preferences Do my subscribers need to register? They don’t need to register to receive or send email. But it is probably a good idea, so they can manage their own preferences. What happens if I don’t register? If you don’t register you can’t maintain your lists. If you haven’t registered by April 30th, we will put your lists up for adoption. How do I know what lists can be adopted? First, you need to register. Lists will not be assigned to unregistered emails. The list of orphaned lists can be found here: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/lists/orphanedlists Nothing looks like I remember it. A lot has changed. Look around a bit, read the help pages and ask questions. It may take some time, but you’ll find what you are looking for. Should I post a message to my list? It is a good idea to jump start your list again. You might want to introduce yourself, talk about the purpose of the list and tell your subscribers that they need to register for the new system. They can find help links on our main page: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/ The links are right at the top. Can I ask questions on this list? You can reply to this list and someone will get back to you. But this is just an announcement list and comments will not be posted. Remember to register and thank you for being a RootsWeb volunteer!
