All you need is the notepad tool that comes with pretty much any operating system. I showed my sister-in-law how to create a web page in about five minutes. When I used to work for a living as a technical writer I was responsible for maintaing the department web page on the corporate website. In order to connect with the server I had to use FrontPage, but I cheated. I would open a FrontPage editor window and a Notepad window. I would create my HTML code in Notepad and then cut and paste it into the FrontPage window and then submit it. When I first started creating genealogical web pages on the Internet, I didn't even have a computer. I had a DECmate word processor with a character cell display monitor and a modem. I would create my pages and upload them to the server. I could check them out with a LYNX browser on the character-cell terminal to make sure it was OK. Then I would go to a public Library to see how it looked in Windows. If I wanted to tweak the colors or the layout, I would open up a telnet session from the Library computer, tweak the code, and refresh the page until I got it the way I wanted it. People would ask me what sort of editor I used for the web pages and I would say "See these two fingers?" -dja
