Thank you everyone for your help. I have now found out what happened. I moved and everything was on my desktop and I was trying to use my laptop and got the new webpage design software from Microsoft which should have the FTP upload and transfer in it, but I couldn't get it to work. John guided me in the correct direction and I had to use the software from: http://www.download.com/Core-FTP-LE/3000-2160_4-10195752.html<http://www.download.com/Core-FTP-LE/3000-2160_4-10195752.html>, which worked great. I guess Microsoft is phasing out Front Page at least this is what I was told at the store. I haven't got a clue as to what this means. #1 probably doesn't apply. The domain www.rootsweb.com<http://www.rootsweb.com/> is probably only running an http server (port 80), which is why it appears to be working to your browser. Port 21 is the "well known address" for ftp. www.rootsweb.com<http://www.rootsweb.com/> is probably not running an ftp server on port 21. Did you receive instructions? Re-read them. They probably say you should upload your web pages to a domain like ftp.rootsweb.com<ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/>. -- Dennis Kowallek Cincinnati, Ohio [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> ****************** ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2007 08:46:12 -0500 From: "Sherri " <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Subject: Re: [ROOTSWEB-HELP] Proxy Settings To: <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Message-ID: <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Alice, You more than likely should be using either users.rootsweb.com, users.freepages.rootsweb.com or ftp.rootsweb.com<ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/>, depending on the type of account you were issued. The information should be in the original email that you received with the username and password. The hostname is what you are looking for and you'll use as the host address. If you have changed 'something' at home - maybe installed new Anti-virus software, changed ISP, gone wireless, updated a Windows Service Pack, new computer........... - or your ISP has changed their rules If nothing has changed at home then contact your ISP. If you are a FP user and want to move to using css (cascading style sheets) and dwt's (dynamic web templates) this is the way to go. Both FP and Expression Web allow you to publish via FTP or you can use a separate ftp program. FrontPage support will still be available as there are many who may not wish to move to the new version. pat ____________ We discuss FrontPage and Expression Web http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/frontpage/ Genealogy Web Design Tips and Tutorials http://www.genealogy-web-creations.com/ http://www.blog.family-genealogy-online.com/
