Without seeing the two examples, i.e. your site and the other site, it's impossible to comment -- except to remind you that //facts// are not copyrightable, e.g. who was born or died when and where. Expository material (e.g. notes) may be copyrighted by the original author, which copyright will eventually expire. Style and format may also be copyrighted.     3. As I understand, neither person has copyrighted sites or material. The former (fellow issuing the complaint) removed his web site, in anger, so not sure, can't compare. But still un-copyrighted.
