I was wondering about something for (both) webs on Rootsweb and on Freepages. I have a large number of images I'd like users to be able to access. Many are on the larger side and to reduce them would make faces unrecognizable. Normally I make several pages-- 1 with the full large image (and I warn users of this), then crop faces and put each of those images on separate htm/l pages. But I wonder if there is an alternative? Can I upload jpgs to one folder... then make a page with links that go right to the pictures -- rather than to an htm/l page? What are the pros and cons of doing it this way (linking to a folder with pictures)? I assume users would then have access to my directory structure? (true? false?) Judy
You don't need to have an html page to display an image. Just link to the image. I usually name my image folders Images. Many people use Graphics. The link could be <a href="Images/Bradford_B001.gif">Bradford births, page 1</a>. When clicked, the image will display in the upper left corner. Hopefully, everyone is pretty much aware thet some browsers will reduce a large image's sige when it finishes loading and they need to click on it to see it full size. As for a person being able to access your directory structure, that's easy to fix. In each folder that does not have an index.html page, put one in. Just make it a simple: You have tried to access a folder folder for which you are not authorized. If you have any questiosn, please write me. Make the "write me" an e-mail link.
