I didn't know if that was acceptable to do or not - sorry. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/1890Veterans/1890FlatCreek2.htm Donna Cooper --- On Sat, 12/12/09, Pat Geary <pat@family-genealogy-online.com> wrote: > From: Pat Geary <pat@family-genealogy-online.com> > Subject: Re: [ROOTSWEB-HELP] Validate - CSS > To: rootsweb-help@rootsweb.com > Date: Saturday, December 12, 2009, 4:05 PM > At 05:02 PM 12/12/2009, you wrote: > >Thanks for your help, Pat. > > > >The problem that I have here is that I created a table > from a Word > >document that was in a file that was sent to me to use > on the web. > >It seemed easier than recreating the entire page. How do you get the RootsWeb banner to appear at the bottom instead of the top? I think that using a <br> tag after the final </div> that the bottom banner will be pushed below the bottom table. Maybe Pat will know for sure if that is correct. From Barry Carlson on why a doctype is important Statistically, more than 50 percent of browsers in use today are Internet Explorer 7 and earlier versions. " Well that doesn't bother me because I use Chrome 3, Firefox 3.5, Opera 10 or Safari 4 etc..." Wrong! It should bother you, because when designing web pages it is easy to forget that just because you're using a W3C standards compliant browser, it doesn't follow that the IE stable of browsers may not be rendering the same way. How does that happen? You forget to add a Doctype (Document Type Declaration [DTD]) to your page, and even though your page looks fine, things will probably look quite different in IE7, IE6, IE5.5 and IE5.01. That's because without a Doctype the IE stable of browsers render in what is known as Quirks Mode. This can have a major effect on layout, and it's all to do with the IE interpretation of the "box model" and another quirky feature known as "hasLayout". Interested? Then go to :- http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~bristowe/box-model/ie-width.html - click on the !Doctype false button and all will be revealed. The page(s) are designed to render so that those using W3C compliant browsers will see what the Internet Explorer users are seeing.
