    1. Re: [ROOTSWEB-HELP] FTP woes............
    2. Judy, I don't recall needing new passwords foe my previous new computers, either. However I have spent a week trying to connect to Rootsweb by ftp with only frustrating results. I have checked and checked each field for any errors. I only had to fix 1 and it still wouldn't connect. I have entered the user ID's by both typing & by copy-paste. The same with the passwords. I still have the original emails giving the id & pw info. so my combinations for each site ftp access should be correct. I have gotten fresh pw's for 2 of the accounts and they have immediately connected afterwards using the new pw; therefore it seems to me that the PW is the culprit. Heck, I've had 4 different computers in the last few years and never needed my info changed. Here is an explanation of code 530 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318380 (begin quote) " 530 - This status code indicates that the user cannot log on because the user name and password combination is not valid. If you use a user account to log on, you may have mistyped the user name or password, or you may have chosen to allow only Anonymous access. If you log on with the Anonymous account, you may have configured IIS to deny Anonymous access." (end quote) So review the settings in your ftp program. If you've just been copying the user name or password, TYPE in each piece. Make sure you don't have the ~ before your user name. Make sure you don't have an extra space somewhere. Go over each piece. There's a mistake somewhere in the user name or password, it's just a matter of finding it.
