    1. Success!! .txt files formatting
    2. Many thanks to those who wrote to me directly with tips on lining up columns of text, especially St. Cheryl and St. David, who cheerfully kept offering advice after my repeated e-mails!! I was trying to line up columns of text (specifically cemetery transcriptions) and did not want to use tables since those files get so huge and my cemetery lists are big. I need the columns lined up, but saving as .txt does not do that. In case anyone was curious, here's how it worked out: I use MS FrontPage to create my web. The original cemetery files were created in MS Access. In Access I chose "View, Datasheet view" then selected and COPIED the data I needed. Then I PASTED the information into a MS Excel spreadsheet. I eliminated columns I didn't need, sorted it the way I wanted, spaced my columns, etc. Then (in Excel) I did a "File, Save As" (and here's the key!) "formatted text, space delimited." This saves the file as a .prn (print) file. I next opened a new page in MS FrontPage and did "Insert, File." When you select the file saved with .prn extension, Front Page asks if you want to insert as text (yes) then asks next if you want formatted paragraphs (YES). Voila! Nice, orderly columns of data. Again, MANY thanks to those who offered their advice. Sandy Redmond Webmaster, Calhoun County MIGenWeb www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou
