    1. [RW-Help] updating website with front page

    3. Hope somebody out there can help me. About one year ago, I published by web site using Front Page. After several unsuccessful attempts which took up one week, I found that using the destination address: ftp://homepages.rootsweb.com worked. The only problem was that although Front page told me the upload was successful, when I tried to access it, I got the message that it could not be accessed. Then in response to my plea, I was told via e-mail by Betsy Mills that "You uploaded all your files outside the public_html directory. They are not visible on the internet unless they are INSIDE that directory, so I moved them for you to help get you started. This is a major problem that occurs when using FrontPage and I do not know how to tell you to avoid it." Then my site worked. But the whole process was so traumatic that I have not gotten up enough courage to try to update it till now, a year later. I reasoned that maybe I should have tried to send my site to ftp://homepages.rootsweb.com/public_html. After using my user ID and my Password as given me by RootsWeb, the upload started. Then it stopped with the following FrontPage message: "This FTP server doessn't support folder names that contain spaces. Rename the source web's folder corresponding to "images/New Folder", and any other folders that have spaces in their names, and try again." In the site I was trying to upload there were two folders with spaces: "_private" and "_themes". The images folder had no spaces: "C:\My Documents\My Webs\rakroots\images" that were not there when I first uploaded. So I deleted the two spaces in the two folder names and tried again. Got the same message. I had several pages with spaces in their names. So I painstakingly went through and deleted all of them, thinking maybe the message meant files as well as folders ... Tried again and got the same message. Then I went back to what had worked last time and tried to upload to ftp://homepages.rootsweb.com. Tried again and got the same message. So here I sit with all this great stuff I'd like to have on my site and can't get it there. Someone please help me! Surely this should not be so mysterious and painful. And by the way, if you tell me the only solution is to use some other program to upload with ... please tell me step by step how to do that. I am completely unfamiliar with other upload programs. Many thanks in advance, Dick Kraus
