A link is actually just a convenient way of navigating around a site. You can get to each page by typing the URL in the address bar of your browser just as you would the main entry page [or by a link from your bookmark/favorite links]. Links between pages make it easier to get from page to page, and are much easier than remembering all the different URLs to the pages. Still, links between pages are a convenience, not a necessity. I do a lot of photos and other local research for people. Sometimes I just upload these photos to my site, either creating a page to display them, or just plain photos. Then I send the URL of the page to whoever they are intended for, and the person goes and downloads them. Afterward I delete the page/photos from my site. I never create links to these files from any of my permanent pages because they are just temporary files with a short term use. It would probably help you keep things straight, if you created a directory just for your newsletter [maybe named newsletter?] and loaded all the files into that directory. Then just send your partner the URL for the page(s). >Where in this mess do I add a new directory? Would it be a directory, or >just a file? How do I make a new directory or file using WS_FTP? To make a new directory in WS_FTP click on the MkDir button. The one on the Right makes a directory at your online site, the one on the Left will make a directory on your hard drive. Fleta
HELP! I loaded the pages, but now I can't find them. I have tried every combination I can think of to get to the pages, but <whine> they are hiding from me. This is the WS_FTP log. What did I do wrong? 2001.04.16 00:31 B C:\web\greenhouse\bgsnews\index.html --> homepages.rootsweb.com /u1/greenhow/public_html/bgsnews index.html 2001.04.16 00:31 B C:\web\greenhouse\bgsnews\vol14-1.html --> homepages.rootsweb.com /u1/greenhow/public_html/bgsnews vol14-1.html And the question of the moment, how can I make it right? Thank you ALL for your help and encouragement. Did you go to WS-FTP and open (double click) the bgsnews subdirectory on the right screen? Gloria >HELP! > >I loaded the pages, but now I can't find them. it wasn't that. It was the file name that was not entered correctly. It has to be "bgsnews_vol14.html" - NOT "bgsnews vol14.html" Rootsweb as well as millions of other ISPs use UNIX format that does not recognize splitted file name.
