RootsWeb's web servers run on the Linux operating system. I *think* all of them are currently on Red Hat 6.2, but they may have been upgraded. The HTTP server is Apache -- which ever release was in the Red Hat distribution, I presume. Your particular behaviour, however, is not pertinent to unix systems. Rather, it's the usual interpretation of a trailing / in a URL and the way in which the HTTP protocol dictates that a web server is to create a complete URL from a URL fragment in the href=" " portion of an anchor tag.
