I have uploaded my page, but now I don't seem to be able to update it. I created another page with frontpage and then tried to add a link to it on the main page, but I can't seem to update the main page. I'm using ws_ftp. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctmiddle/midlsxco.htm is the main page.

On Rootsweb one's main page should be the base address which for you is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctmiddle The main/home page actually uploaded for a base address would be index.htm which for you would be: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctmiddle/index.htm The homepage extension can be either *.htm or *.html. With using index.htm, the longer address does not have to be used. When I access your base address up comes a directory of what you have: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctmiddle You don't have a index.htm page up. If you check allllll the other RootsWeb USGenWeb sites you will see what I'm talking about For instance, my sites for the town of Plymouth and for Plymouth Co. can be accessed with either the base addresses of: http://www.rootsweb.com/~macplymo/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~maplymou/ or the longer addresses of the actual files: http://www.rootsweb.com/~macplymo/index.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~maplymou/index.htm Other examples: USGenWeb for the state of CT: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctgenweb/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctgenweb/index.htm USGenWeb for New London Co.: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctnewlon/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctnewlon/index.htm Nowwwww there may be problems if you are uploading/FTP directly from FP. FP's default is to change the name of the homepage of a web to default.htm when it publishes it/FTP. Lots of ISPs want the homepage to be index.htm(html). If you want to FTP/publish directly from Frontpage then there are settings somewhereeeeee in FP to change or stop changing the default name of the homepage of a Web. Here are sites connected to AT&T "Wurd" help for their ISP with instructions on publishing/FTP with FP98 and FP2000 - from changing the name of a homepage: http://www.wurd.com/eng/pwp/fp98.htm http://www.wurd.com/eng/pwp/fp2000.htm I use FP98 but FTP from a standalone FTP Client. I publish from FP to a folder on my computer then have setup the FTP client to upload from that folder. This allows me to pick and choose exactly what I want uploaded. I believe if done directly from FP it uploads and updates everything and lots of time I don't want some experimental stuff to upload. --- Susan SGTAYLOR1@att.net My Genealogy Website - sgt http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/ ----------------------------------------------- USGW Mansfield, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/mansfield.html USGW New London, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/newlondon.html USGW Norwich, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/norwich.html USGW Windham, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/windham.html USGW Coordinator Plymouth Co., MA - http://www.rootsweb.com/~maplymou/ USGW Plymouth, MA - http://www.rootsweb.com/~macplymo/ *********************************************************
